Camp Bird Cemetery
Abandoned, no visible headstone markers. These two cemeteries are only
accessible by four wheel drive and then by horse or mule. It is a very
treacherous event to get to the area that once was Camp Bird and Sneffles.
These were two mining areas in the first part of the century (1900).
Nothing remains that clearly designates the graves in the two cemeteries.-

Dexter Creek (private)
11/2002-The location is Dexter Creek, in Ouray County. The nearest town is
Ouray, 3 miles south. The cemetery is right next to my house. Only my
relatives are buried here. There are 7 graves total the most recent, my
father a few years ago. The family names are McElroy, Poore, & Stedham. This
is not a public cemetery and anyone interested in seeing it should contact
me first via email at rubycanyon@yahoo.com |

Red Mountain Cemetery
(Abandoned and unmarked, Red Mountain Cemetery is also is on private
property that is an active mining and blasting area. To get to the area
that once was RED MOUNTAIN you have to walk from the paved road about 2
miles. Once again the owners of the land, the IDAORADO Mining Company say
please stay off the land and the area around it as explosives are detonated
randomly in the area and you could be hurt |
